Two styles of music that are not common to orchestral playing are masterfully combined in this bright and energetic selection. Ragtime music, generally performed by jazz bands, and march music, historically performed in a marching band setting, are intertwined in Ragtime March, producing a fun and entertaining piece of music. In this arrangement, each section of the orchestra has an opportunity to shine. Written in the approachable key of G, the rhythmic patterns and harmonies presented are stylistic of the two genres of music. It is fast moving, culminating with a grand march and subtle hints of the ragtime theme.
