David Bowie
Born David Robert Jones, David Bowie adopted his more recognized surname early on in his career because David Jones was too similar to Davy Jones of The Monkees. He got his first taste of rock and roll stardom with his song “Space Oddity,” inspired by the first men landing on the moon, and the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick. He later adopted the androgynous personality Ziggy Stardust, and released the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. This identity made him a glam-rock icon. He is known for musical innovation and reinventing his persona often enough for it to become a staple. His next “reinvention” came under the title “The Thin White Duke” alongside the album Station to Station. He then moved to Berlin to pursue the Germanic music scene. While there he cleaned himself up after years of drug abuse. Many people remember him for his role as the Goblin King Jareth in the Jim Henson film “Labyrinth.” Recently he has remained under the well-known alias David Bowie, and he still remains a rock and roll icon for his many years of eclecticism and innovation in the music industry.
